Would You Storm a Castle for Pirate Treasure?
A castle quest, a rising threat at sea, and pirates who refused to surrender...Issue #53 – May 1st, 2026

Ahoy, Matey
What if the hunt didn’t end at sea?
What if the treasure was hidden behind stone walls… guarded not by waves—but by shadow and steel?
This week, the world of piracy stretches far beyond the ocean.
From a castle turned pirate battleground…
To rising attacks in modern waters…
To the fates of pirates who met their end far from glory…
The question is simple:
Would you chase the treasure… no matter where it’s hidden?
Let’s set sail.
📜 THIS WEEK IN PIRATE HISTORY
⚔️ April 28, 1721 – The End of Mary Read

Not all pirates met their end at sea.
Some met it in chains.
On April 28, 1721, Mary Read died in a Jamaican prison—far from the decks where she made her name.
Captured alongside Anne Bonny after the fall of Calico Jack’s crew, Read had fought as fiercely as any man on the seas.
Disguised as male for much of her life, she proved herself in battle time and again—earning both respect… and fear.
But in the end?
There was no final duel.
No blaze of glory.
Just sickness, confinement…
And silence.
⚓ May 2, 1822 – The Belvidere Fights Back
Long after the Golden Age had faded…
Piracy still stalked the seas.
On May 2, 1822, the brigantine Belvidere was attacked in the Florida Straits by a pirate schooner.
The pirates closed in under a chilling banner:
A black flag bearing a death’s head with crossed bones beneath it.
A message as clear then as it is now:
No mercy.
But this time…
The target refused to yield.
The Belvidere fought back.
Cannons roared. Shots rang out.
And against the odds—the pirates were driven off.
A rare outcome in those waters.
A reminder that even in the 19th century…
The black flag still inspired fear.

⚠️ MODERN PIRACY REPORT – THE THREAT RISES AGAIN
🌊 Somali Coast – Threat Level Increasing

The past isn’t as far behind us as it seems.
Recent reports confirm:
👉 Another vessel has been seized off the Somali coast
👉 Maritime threat levels in the region are rising
The UKMTO also issued a warning over a separate hijacking off the coast of Mareeyo, northern Somalia which occurred on 21 April.
Pirates also hijacked an oil tanker, Honour 25, with 17 crew that was sailing near the Somali coast on 22 April, according to multiple security officials speaking to the BBC.
Once again, small, fast-moving pirate groups are targeting commercial ships in one of the world’s busiest trade corridors.
The tactics?
Unfamiliar to some.
Very familiar to others.
Rapid approach
Boarding attempts
Seizing control of vessels
Different century.
Same playbook.
⚔️ Why It Matters
The waters off Somalia have long been a hotspot for piracy—but after years of decline, incidents are beginning to climb again.
And where there is:
Heavy trade traffic
Valuable cargo
Limited enforcement
Piracy finds a way.

⚔️ Final Word
Most pirate stories happen at sea.
This one happens behind castle walls.
So the question is—
Would you storm the castle… or hunt the treasure within it?

☠️ Captain’s Log
Pirates were never meant to be contained.
Not by oceans.
Not by empires.
Not even by time.
They’ve fought on ships…
Hidden treasure on islands…
And now—
They’re storming castles.
So whether you find yourself chasing clues through stone corridors…
Or watching the horizon for something darker—
Remember:
The story isn’t over.
It never was.
Until next week — keep a weathered eye.
Fair winds,
— Captain Blackquill
